Where there is a will, there’s a way Residents of new sectors have again found a convenient shortcut to evade toll at Kherki Daula.
The residents of sectors 79 to 113 say they have already marked the new lift road pas-sing through Kherki village, which is just 100 metres away from the national highway They intend to soon start developing the stretch and use it to access the Delhi-Jaipur highway till the state government removes the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
The alternative route is parallel to the 350m shortcut road linking Dwarka Expressway with the highway which the new sector residents metalled over a month back, but the toll authorities had subsequently dug up the stretch to avoid revenue loss.
“After having a meeting with the tehsildar of Manesar recently, we marked the stretch connecting the Kheri Daula village new road with the service lane of the national highway on Saturday We will soon start developing it as per tehsil map,” Praveen Malik, vice president of United Association of New Gurugram, told TOI
“Residents of Kherki village have helped us. Once functional, the road will give relief to thousands of new sector residents who are forced to pay toll daily,” he added.
The development comes days after the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Corporation and HSIIDC began the process of moving the Kherki Dhaula toll plaza, following the Punjab and Haryana high court vacating a stay on 50 acres of land in Pachgaon for the relocation.
Bhupender Narula, another resident, said, “Even as the GMDA has written a letter to HSIIDC for 50 acres of land for the shifting of the toll plaza, we have been trying to figure out alternative routes till the physical shifting is done. We are forced to pay a toll of Rs 130 per vehicle, which is a big concern.”
Sanjay Nambarclar, a resident of Kherki village, said. “We have agreed to allow the residents to use our road temporarily. The residents have also got legal permission from the authorities (tehsildar).”
Kherki Daula toll plaza spot has been infamous for brawls between motorists and toll operators. The ope-rator, Millennium City Expressway Private Limited, has already relaxed toll charges for 31 villages. This does not apply to new sectors.
