NHAI Tells Admin to Clear Encroachments Along Project Route

The NHAI has asked the district administration to acquire land at Islampur and Badshahpur villages at the earliest and remove encroachments to avoid delaying the Badshahpur elevated road project.

An NHAI official said that land is needed at Islampur and Badshahpur for the completion of the elevated road and this would be possible only if the district administration completes the acquisition process at the earliest. A number of shops and other buildings on both sides of the roads need to be removed to facilitate the expansion of the road and construct the elevated expressway.

Though the highways authority has approached the district revenue office, it has not received a positive response on the issue due to technical reasons, he added. “It is important for the district administration and other agencies to ensure that land is made available to us in these two villages and also at other locations for the project to go through smoothly,” the official, who is not authorised to speak to the media, said on condition of anonymity.

The highways authority does not want the ambitious project to meet the fate of the Iffco Chowk L-shaped underpass, which has remained in limbo for the past 1.5 years, because the state authorities have not been able to get a petrol pump shifted to another location. “The work on the project will soon be gathering pace. This project will help reduce congestion to a great extent on Sohna Road and combined with the Dwarka Expressway and SPR, help in smoother vehicular movement,” Ashok Sharma, project director, NHAI, said.
